Gate Community Summer - Day 3
What is Jesus doing right now?
"...Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us."
Author T. Ferme says… “Christ Jesus does not lead a life merely of blessedness in heaven, but a life of office. He has an unchangeable and everlasting priesthood. The one part of His priesthood He finished here on earth, when he offered up Himself to God a sacrifice; and the other, the interceding work of His priesthood, He still carries on in heaven. Intercession, in general, signifies a pleading and petitioning with one person on behalf of another. We being unworthy of access to God in our own name, Christ Jesus is our intercessor to plead our cause with the Father, and to secure and dispense to us the blessings of His purchase."
Martin Luther wrote:
"In his life, Christ is an example, showing us how to live; in his death, he is a sacrifice, satisfying our sins; in his resurrection, a conqueror; in his ascension, a king; in his intercession, a high priest."
What does Christ, sitting at the right hand of God, interceding on our/your behalf mean to you??
The risen Christ who is now at the right hand of God interceding on our behalf… ruling as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords will return to establish His Kingdom for all eternity. And in his power we are able to stand against the temptation and sin that we face daily.
The fact that Christ is Lord, means that we live our lives in submission to His will. The fact that Christ is King means that he is ultimately victorious, and that even in our own weakness we can come to Him and receive strength and the hope and the healing we need for our daily lives. We have the promise that Jesus will come back again.
And in the meantime we are not just to stand there idly looking up in the sky…
“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”
Empowered by the Spirit and protected by our interceding Savior, we are to be the hands of feet of Jesus, continuing his ministry on earth until his return.
