Gate Community Summer - Day 26
The Psalms have the Power to Shape Us
The question for early church—and for us—as they figured out what it meant to be transformed to be more like Jesus was this: How does the new mind and the new heart, with all of their imperfect thinking and feeling (because sin is still involved), pursue the fullness of right-thinking and the fullness of holy living.
One of the main answers of the early church was to immerse themselves in the Psalms. The Psalms is the most often-quoted Old Testament book in the New Testament. It was the songbook and the poetry book and the meditation book of the church. Alongside the teachings of Jesus and the apostles, Psalms was the book that shaped the thinking and the feeling of the believers more than any other.
Have you immersed yourself in the Book of Psalm? Consider making reading a Psalm-a-day part of your daily habits!
“If you need a guide for your ongoing relationship with God, read Psalms.”
