Gate Community Summer - Day 19
The early church had such a big picture of God and an understanding of the big picture of what God was up to in the world, they didn’t predictably pray that God would take away the persecution. They didn’t pray that God would make things easier. They prayed…
Acts 3:29-30 – Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. 30 Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”
1. The ability to be obedient to Christ’s command to them to preach the gospel
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
2. God would show his power through miraculous signs and wonders
God’s Response to Prayer
Acts 3:31 - After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
1. The place where they were meeting was shaken…
In the Old Testament, the shaking of a place was a manifestation of God in a visible form.
2. Filled with the Holy Spirit...
3. Spoke the word of God boldly…
One of the things that comes with a fresh filling of the Spirit is courage.
