Gate Community Summer - Day 13
Jesus desired us to have life and have it to the fullest. The only way we have life to the fullest is by surrendering ourselves over to the work of the Holy Spirit. Do you really desire to surrender?
It’s like saying with our hands out toward God, “Lord Jesus, this is all of who I am. I come and surrender my body, soul and spirit to You. Please come and take over my personality, my abilities, my possessions, my decisions, my ambitions, my affections, my hands, my feet, my mouth, my speech, my values … ALL OF ME!”
Some of you have maybe never been filled with the Holy Spirit and so you need to be baptized in the Spirit. Others of you might need a fresh filling of the Spirit. Let’s take a look at the steps…
1. PRESENT your body to Him
Romans 12:1-2 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Are you willing to give over to Him your entire body, which in this case includes your soul and your spirit?
God won’t fill what He doesn’t have. In other words, He will full us to the degree that we have died to ourselves, or emptied ourselves of our own selfish ambition, pride, independence, rebellion … etc.
Are you willing to do that? Are you willing to present your whole self to God?
9 “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
11 “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
God could fill us without our asking, but He chooses to not violate our will and invites us to ask.
He’s wondering who really wants Him in all His fullness.
It’s as simple as “Lord Jesus, I present myself wholly to you. Please come now and baptize, or immerse, me in the Holy Spirit. Give me affirmation of your presence deep within and give me your power for ministry. I invite You to fill, control, and guide my life and to produce Your fruit in me.”
3. HAVE FAITH
2 I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard?
We are filled with the Holy Spirit by faith just as we receive the Lord in salvation by faith.
If it seems nothing happens, continue to ask, continue to pursue after these things. Ask God for evidence of this baptism. Keep pursuing God in faith. The baptism is available to every Christ-follower.
4. OBEY Him
15 “If you love me, keep my commands.
32 We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”
7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
