Welcome to Grade 5-6 at Heartland Alliance Church!
At Heartland we call our Grade 5-6 Students – 56ers. We believe this is one of the most pivotal age groups in the church as these kids are at a key transitional phase in their young lives. They are moving away from being little kids who follow and trust everything that is put in front of them and moving towards becoming independent adolescents who are asking important questions about whom they are and who God is?
It is because of this unique time in their lives that it is important to have a specific area focusing on 56ers. Within this area the kids will have some familiar experiences from their Children’s Program days but there will also be new experiences to help prepare them for being part of the broader Youth Program when they enter Grade 7.
The 56ers have a small group/classroom experience during every weekend service with the exception of Family Service weekends and Gate Takeover weekends. They will also have a once-a-month Friday event for just their age group that is fun and will help build group community. 56ers can also participate in a bi-weekly Small Group on Monday nights at the church. There is a group for the boys and a group for the girls.
If you have children in Grade 5-6, we invite you to come be part of our community!
Judy has been involved in Children’s Ministry since the beginning of Heartland, first in the Elementary area, and now with Grade 5/6. Her passion is that kids really know who their heavenly Father is and that they have an intimate personal relationship with him. She loves to create lessons that are fun, engaging and involve the class learning for themselves Biblical truths to last a lifetime. When she isn’t working at Heartland she is busy being a wife and business partner with her husband of 35 years, John, and a mother to her two children.
Wade grew up in Sherwood Park and joined the Heartland team in June 2009. Prior to Heartland, he was on the pastoral staff at Sherwood Park Alliance Church for ten years working with students from grades 5-12 and Young Adults, and where he also ran a drop-in centre for skateboarders and bmx'ers. Wade is a graduate of Taylor University College and the Arrow Leadership Program. He enjoys coaching, playing, and watching basketball, hockey, or football. He is married to Sharla, his high school sweetheart, and they have three children.
Wade is passionate that students have a foundational understanding of their faith and that they have real encounters with the presence of God.
