Jesus our Sanctifier

Week 2: Jesus our Sanctifier – By Kris Schmidtke

To sanctify means "to make holy", a process made possible by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and continued in us by the work of the Holy Spirit to develop Christ's image in us. The only way we can experience this transformation is by first surrendering ourselves to Jesus, asking for the Holy Spirit to dwell in us, abiding in Christ through relationship (prayer and meditating on scripture), and thirsting for the things he promised us if we do these things:

  1. A holy assurance,
  2. Abundant joy and
  3. Transformative power of the Holy Spirit seen in our own lives and demonstrated through us.

Challenge: What areas of your life will you submit to the transforming work of the Holy Spirit? How will you be intentional in "walking with the Spirit" this week?

Mission to Nepal

This past week it was awesome to have Nick Goertz and Kandice Edwards share about their recent missions experience to Nepal. They were impacted by how far people were physically removed from hearing the gospel. They had to travel hours by plane, bus, and foot to reach some of the Nepal people hidden in the mountain side. Missionaries stressed to them as visitors that their soul purpose was to tell the gospel. Every moment counted as it may be the only time the people they were meeting would hear the gospel. Even today when we live in a very "connected" world, there are people who continue to be unreached by the gospel. They have not heard the message of salvation.

It was an awakening in both Nick & Kandice's hearts to be more alert to the people here in Canada and be earnest to use every moment as a moment to bring the good news. It's amazing how stepping outside of our comfort zone can impact and shape our relationship with Jesus. As we die to ourselves, Jesus shows us how much we can live for him.

As we surrender different areas of our life to him, we actually become more free.

Be sanctified.

Passage to reflect on: “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want." - Galatians 5:17
